Measure Path Tool

The Measure Path tool allows you to draw a polygon path, measure the distance of the path, and calculate data, such as required time and/or required steps to travel the distance based on velocity parameters you have set.

To Calculate Time and/or Distance with the Measure Path Tool:

  1. Select the Measure Path tool from the Toolbox. 
  2. In the Properties bar, select a path type from the Path Type drop-down menu, or press the Define Path Type... button to add a new path type.
  3. Click points to draw a polygon path you would like to measure.
  4. After drawing the path, click the icon on the left side of the Properties bar. In the Properties bar, Required Time and/or Required Steps have been calculated based on the velocity parameters of the Path Type used to draw the polygon path.

To Define and Add Path Type Presets:

  1. Select the Measure Path tool from the Toolbox. 
  2. In the Properties bar, press the Define Path Type... button.
  3. In the Define Path Type dialog, enter a name or select an option from the Name drop-down menu.
  4. Select a Velocity type. When you select On Foot, you can set an Average Stride value.
  5. Set the Velocity parameters.
  6. Set the options from the Path Attributes section.
  7. Click OK.

To Change the Parameters of Path Types:

  1. Select the Measure Path tool from the Toolbox. 
  2. In the Properties bar, press the Define Path Type... button.
  3. Select a path type you would like to edit the parameters of from the Name drop-down menu.
  4. Edit the Velocity parameters, as needed.
  5. Edit the Path Attributes, as needed.
  6. Click OK.

To Delete Path Types:

  1. Select the Measure Path tool from the Toolbox. 
  2. In the Properties bar, press the Define Path Type... button.
  3. Select a path type you would like to delete from the Name drop-down menu.
  4. Press the Delete button.
  5. Click OK to close the dialog box.

You can save presets by selecting Save Presets to File from the pop-up menu. You can also load the presets from saved files by selecting Load Presets from File from the pop-up menu.

To Place Data of Measure Path Objects:

In the Properties bar, press the Stamp Data button. The data displayed in the Properties bar will be placed at the end of the path.

To Copy the Data to the Clipboard:

In the Properties bar, press the Copy to Clipboard button.

To Edit the Parameters of Measure Path Objects:

  1. Select a Measure Path object of which you would like to edit the parameters.
  2. In the Properties bar, press the Change Parameters... button.
  3. Update the Velocity parameters, as needed.
  4. Click OK. The data displayed in the Properties bar will be updated.

You can also change the attributes of a Measure Path object from the Toolbox later, including stroke weight, stroke color, dash, or arrow.
